Sexual Assault & Coercion

Sexual assault and coercion can be difficult to talk about, but it is important for TransHub to be open about how it affects trans and gender diverse people in Australia. The term ‘sexual violence’ can be used to talk about all forms of sexually violent behaviour, including assault, coercion, and other experiences that feel less clear to label or describe.

The Human Rights Campaign writes, “sexual violence affects every demographic and every community – including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people1” and being able to talk about how it affects our communities allows us to listen to and support one another, and find ways to seek healing and justice.

If you need care or support now, visit I Need Support Now for a contact details of every Sexual Assault Service in NSW, and links to other services.

Here & Now is a set of resources for trans people who have experienced sexual assault.

Sexual assault affects the lives of many trans people, and it can be a difficult thing to talk about, or seek help for. Here & Now can help with some of the practical information, and point you in the direction of help and support. We have produced two digital pronouns posters that are available for download here.

This project was funded by, and created in close collaboration with, the Prevention and Response to Violence and Neglect unit (PARVAN) at the NSW Ministry of Health. We also want to thank Knuckles Animation, and all the community members who provided their experience, voices, and knowledge to this resource.
